Welded Wire Mesh Surface Treatments: Electro-Galvanized, Hot-Dipped Galvanized, Vinyl Coated, Powder Coated, PVC Coated

Metech Welded Mesh Inc provides welded wire mesh products with galvanizing and powder coating corrosion resistance options.

Welded Mesh Types Classified According to Surface Treatments

Types of surface treatments are important for welded wire mesh corrosion resistance and properties. Major finishes listed as below.

Hot Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh

Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh

Hot dipped galvanized steel wire mesh has a thick zinc coating against corrosion. Mesh types can be hexagonal net, square mesh, welded, woven or crimped.
Used for outdoor, marine, sea shore and industry uses.

Electro Galvanized Wire Mesh

Electro Galvanized Wire Mesh

Wire mesh galvanized through an electroplating process. Electro galv. welded mesh is a general use material suitable for light fencing, enclosure, concrete reinforcing.

Vinyl Coated Welded Wire Mesh

Black Vinyl Coated Wire Mesh

Green vinyl coated wire mesh and black coated wire mesh are mainly used for Fencing Applications. Vinyl coating offers excellent corrosion resistance, smooth surface and decoration to the fencing panels. Suitable for residential fencing, high security fencing, poultry fencing and animal enclosures.

Powder Coated Welded Wire Mesh

Powder Coated Wire Mesh

Welded wire mesh powder coated offers good anti-scratching or anti-abrasion properties, suitable for warehouse, fencing, machine guards, commonly as Wire Shelving Panels and Fence Panels.

PVC Coated Welded Wire Mesh

PVC Coated Wire Mesh

PVC coated wire mesh is also known as Plastic Coated Wire Mesh, suitable for garden fencing, animal enclosures, park fencing and fencing for children’s play areas.

Choose Between Electro-Galvanized and Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh Product

Hot-dipped galvanizing is better for harsh conditions and outdoor use, electro-galvanizing is a less cost solution offering less corrosion resistance property.

1. Manufacturing Process

  • Electro-Galvanized Wire Mesh: Galvanizd wire using an electrochemical process.
  • Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh: The wire is dipped in a molten zinc bath, resulting in a thicker zinc coating.

2. Thickness of Zinc Coating

  • Electro-Galvanized: The zinc layer is thin, usually around 3-5 microns thick.
  • Hot-Dipped Galvanized: The coating is thicker, from 30 to 60 microns.

3. Surface Finish

  • Electro-Galvanized: Smooth, uniform finish, bright surface.
  • Hot-Dipped Galvanized: Less smooth.

4. Corrosion Resistance

  • Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh offers superior corrosion resistance over Electro galvanized mesh.

5. Cost

  • Electro-Galvanized Wire Mesh is less expensive compared with Hot-Dipped Galvanized Mesh.

6. Applications

  • Electro-Galvanized Wire Mesh: Commonly used in poultry netting, manufacturing and machine guarding.
  • Hot-Dipped Galvanized Wire Mesh: Used in highway fencing, hardware cloth, security fencing and heavy industrial applications.

Choose Between Powder Coated, Vinyl Coated, and PVC Coated Welded Wire Mesh

1. Coating Material and Property

Powder Coated Welded Wire Mesh:

  • Material: A dry powder—often a blend of polymer resins and other additives, applied electrostatically and cured under heat, forming a tough layer.
  • Properties: Highly durable with a smooth finish resistant to chipping, scratching and fading.

Vinyl Coated Welded Wire Mesh:

  • Material: Wire mesh is coated with a fluid PVC (vinyl) layer fused to the wire through a heating process.
  • Properties: Excellent corrosion resistance, very smooth finish, and increased durability.

PVC Coated Welded Wire Mesh:

  • Material: Plastic or PVC coating is applied to galvanized wire.
  • Properties: Superior protection against chemicals and UV.

2. Colors and Surface

  • Powder Coating: Various colors with a consistently smooth and bright finish.
  • Vinyl Coating: Smoother and available in various colors, the finish can be more glossy compared to PVC.
  • PVC Coating: Available in a standard range of colors, with a thicker and sometimes less uniform finish than powder coating.

3. Environmental Considerations

  • Powder Coated Wire Mesh is more environmentally friendly due to the lack of solvents in the powder, compared with Vinyl and PVC Coated Mesh.

4. Cost

  • Powder Coated Mesh: Expensive but cost-effective over time due to its durability.
  • Vinyl Coated Mesh: Cost more than PVC coated mesh.
  • PVC Coated Mesh: Most cost-effective solution among the three types of coated wire mesh.
