Gabion baskets of galvanised square wire mesh welded, specifications as following:

Constructing Gabion Retaining Walls

• Unsuitable Fill Material: The use of inappropriate fill material for retaining walls can lead to wall failure, highlighting the importance of thorough material testing and selection.
• Gabion Wall Instabilities: Several factors can destabilize gabion walls, including slope instability leading to pond overflow, uneven loading, distortion or rupture of the mesh, and debonding of wall courses. Unsuitable fill choices, and inadequate geotextile membrane installation can further compromise wall stability.
• Mesh Wire and Drainage Issues: The deterioration of gabion wall mesh due to inadequate protective coating, combined with insufficient secondary drainage systems, can lead to significant wall instability and failure.

Detailed geological surveys, careful material selection, and monitoring can help prevent these issues and ensure the durability and safety of gabion retaining walls and substructures.

Gabion Fill Requirements

• The gabion fill material must meet the standards set in the “Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works, Series 600 Earthworks (Class 6G),” with particle sizes ranging from no less than 100mm to no more than 200mm.
• Fill material should be durable, non-degradable, and devoid of any debris or foreign substances.
